Privacy

I understand it can feel overwhelming talking about the most vulnerable parts of you with someone you don't know.  It's important for you to know that everything you talk about is confidential- I will not share your identity or your story with anyone else.

The only times that I am required to break confidentiality by law is if failure to do so would endanger yourself or other people or if your information is subpoenaed by the courts.   If you are seeing me by referral of a GP, I will also need to disclose information about your treatment and progress to them to ensure you are being holistically supported.  I will obtain your permission before I disclose information to other third parties, for example, for insurance claims or to your partner/school for a specific purpose; in such situations we will discuss all the implications of such disclosure before permission is requested, and you are always entitled to refuse permission.

You may access the information in your own file on request, subject to the exceptions in the national privacy principles.
